Standard ADuC702x and ADuC7128/7129 devices can be programmed via the UART or via the JTAG interfaces. The UART interface requires the part to enter Boot mode. When in Boot mode, the internal Kernel program accepts commands over the UART to alter the internal flash. The JTAG interface is an industry standard JTAG interface which requires an external JTAG pod, shown in black in this slide, to interface between a PC and the ADuC part. The JTAG interface can also be used for non-intrusive debugging of code.
