Texas Instruments offers three generations of channel link solutions. First generation channel link devices reduce the wide parallel data bus to smaller bus size. They transport a clock along with the data to facilitate data reception. Any control channels need to be carried on a separate conductor pair. The Channel Link II devices reduce the wide parallel bus to a single conductor pair. The clock is embedded into the data stream, and users need not worry about matching data and clock skew. Any control channels need to be carried on a separate conductor pair. The Channel Link III devices embed the clock and the control channel on the same conductor pair as the data.
