Shown here is a typical application diagram. A camera usually captures the video content, which is then transported over a distribution network to a processing display box. In the camera, the image sensor interfaces to a Analog Front End (AFE) which digitizes the sensor image and sends it to a processor. The processor then removes any artifacts and sends it to the serializer for transport over a long reach of cable. The distribution network consists of repeaters as well as switches that take video feeds from various camera sources and route them to the appropriate displays. The processing and display unit has a de-serializer to receive the serial data stream and convert it back to a parallel bus. A processor takes this data and either extracts information out of it (machine vision applications) or converts it to a format to drive a display.
