Channel Link III solutions embed a I²C control channel on the same set of wires as the data and clock. A single pair of wires carries clock, data and the control channel signals. The SerDes supports a high speed forward channel. The control channel is therefore, bidirectional and can be either a I²C interface or GPIO (General Purpose I/O) signals. The control channel has CRC protection to protect the integrity of the control data.
