megaAVR PB Devices

Microchip offers its megaAVR PB MCUs based on the AVR® enhanced RISC architecture

Image of Atmel's megaAVR "PB" DevicesMicrochip's AVR 8-bit microcontrollers with 4, 8, 16, 32 KB in-system programmable Flash have been released with added functionality, while maintaining the same size and package type. The PORT E allows for expanded I/O along with other alternate functions. All the revision B enhancements to these popular Microchip 8-bit microcontrollers are listed below.

ATmega328PB Features
  • Extra USART: One additional USART with start-of-frame detection, which can wake up the MCU from all sleep modes (a total of two available in the device)
  • Extra timer/counters: Two extra 16-bit timers/counters with separate prescaler, compare mode, and capture mode added (a total of three available in the device)
  • Unique serial number: Each device features a 10-byte unique serial number that can be read from the application software. This number can be used for a number of purposes, from logistics tracking to crypto functions, and as device address in a communication network, which makes it great for any IoT application
  • Extra SPI: One additional master/slave SPI (a total of two available in the device)
  • More IO: The 32-pin megaAVR devices have increased the number GPIO from 23 to 27
  • A new Port E has been added on pins 3, 6, 19, and 22
  • Analog comparator output - These devices now make it possible to get the analog comparator output on pin 3
  • Analog enhancements - The internal voltage reference and internal oscillators have improved accuracy, enhancing any ADC measurements, as well as enabling higher serial communication speeds
ATmega48PB and ATmega88PB Features
  • Additional touch channels: The touch channels available have been increased from 12 to 16
  • More IO: The 32-pin megaAVR devices have increased the number GPIO from 23 to 27
  • A Port E has been added on pins 3, 6, 19, and 22
